'Choose Your Own Carer' is our unique take on traditional care within the home which allows you to personally choose who delivers your care, and gives you the continuity of having the same individual. With this service, the client is the employer while My Care My Home cover the payroll and recruitment aspects.

You can use this service to recruit a live-in carer or a carer who visits your home to provide care when you need it, for example in the mornings and evenings. The service requires a minimum of 15 hours of care to be delivered per week.

What is involved in choosing my own carer?

We construct a job advertisement that caters to your every care need. We will then advertise the job role and assist you in interviewing the shortlist of candidates.

When you've selected a carer, we conduct all of the the necessary background checks (such as an Enhanced DBS) and reference checks before your care commences.

Monthly payroll services are provided to ensure correct tax and NI deductions are made, and regular monitoring visits will take place to ensure both you and your carer are supported.

How long does it take?

On average, it takes 8 weeks from starting the search to fully implementing your care package with your chosen carer.

We recommend using a domiciliary care provider as an interim measure. My Care My Home can provide care from our branches in South Wales, Wigan and Wirral, but if you live outside of these areas, we can help you find a suitable provider with our Shortlisting Care Providers Service.

Why is this better than using an agency?

The main advantage of using our Choose Your Own Carer service is being able to personally choose the person who cares for you, and having continuity of the same person providing the support.

There are also some provisions that you should consider. For example:
• You may be required to make back up arrangements if your carer is sick or unable to attend work at short notice
• This services requires you (or another suitable family member) to be the named employer and as such you would have employers responsibilities. For example, you will have to cover annual leave payments.
